Two whole months went by without a single shoot, and by that point I was willing to try pretty much anything.

That’s when Alex Sportl1ex from St. Petersburg resurfaced. He messaged me saying he wanted to come to Moscow to shoot.

I rented an apartment for him! I even went to pick him up at the station. Took him to the apartment, gave him the keys, of course, and told him: the shoot is tomorrow at 3 p.m.

For the shoot, I called the same young director who had made my “ordinary day set to Handel.” In other words, the best professional I had available. He looked through the Airbnb photos of the apartment and even prepared a storyboard.

The next day, at three, Alex wasn’t answering his phone. And he clearly wasn’t at the apartment.

Luckily, the director was late too. Very late — almost an hour. So I sat on a bench in a nearby park waiting for both of them.

The director arrived.

Still no Alex.

Finally, another hour later, at almost five in the afternoon, he appeared.

He’d gotten bored that morning, found an orgy, and ended up staying there. Unfortunately, he had completely lost track of time.

By that point, nobody was willing to cancel the whole thing, so we went ahead with the shoot anyway. There wasn’t enough natural light anymore, but at least we had come prepared with artificial lighting.

The main video was shot in a more cinematic style, mostly in wide shots. We also filmed some behind-the-scenes footage.

The director — who was also operating the camera — altered his own voice, which you can hear in the video, to make sure nobody recognized him. After all, he was relatively well known in his professional circles.

And in front of the camera... well. After that start to the day and our bottom’s rather eventful morning, our interaction ended up being pretty lethargic. Zero fire.

That was the end of my contact with Alex.

And, by a curious coincidence, it was also the end of my contact with that director. I think he simply got tired of the whole game.

After that, I went an entire year without doing a single shoot with a professional camera.

Just phones — which, back then, still left quite a lot to be desired.

Infelizmente, perdeu completamente a noção do tempo.

Why didn’t I simply stop dealing with difficult partners?

Simple: finding someone even remotely attractive to shoot with in Russia was a major problem. Gym culture wasn’t particularly developed, while bad diets, smoking, and every imaginable kind of stimulant were pretty common.

The result was a lot of guys with very little muscle and skin that was already in pretty rough shape.

There was another factor too: pornography has always been illegal in Russia. Until around 2023, though, the authorities mostly looked the other way, and hardly anyone was actually prosecuted for it.

Even so, very few people were willing to take porn seriously unless they had some kind of plan — even just a Plan B — for eventually leaving the country.

And Alex? Well, he was gorgeous, charismatic, and great in bed. A couple of screws loose here and there... but who’s perfect?

So I didn’t make much of that first incident.

Before I’d even left St. Petersburg, we were already discussing a possible visit to Moscow so we could shoot together again.

Right after the shoot at home with Mike Dobrev, I flew to St. Petersburg. This time, at least in theory, everything had been confirmed as thoroughly as humanly possible, and I had two partners waiting to shoot with me.

The first was Alex, a young 3D illustrator and bodybuilder who had moved from Siberia to St. Petersburg less than a year earlier. For his stage name, he chose something practically unreadable: Sportl1ex.

I assume it was some nickname he’d already been using online.

Maybe I’m biased, but I have a theory: moving to St. Petersburg from the Russian provinces only makes sense if you already live somewhere nearby.

If you’re coming from far away — Siberia, for example — and you choose St. Petersburg over Moscow, there’s probably something wrong with you. Like being completely fucking insane.

Alex did his best to confirm my stereotype.

He arrived on time. Strange for someone from St. Petersburg, but then again, he hadn’t lived there very long yet.

The shoot went great. We nearly broke a cheap IKEA bed, did a very romantic photo shoot — just look at the chemistry between us — and then... at the very end, he had a meltdown because his blood sugar had dropped.

Our aspiring bodybuilder was already counting every calorie with absolute precision, but had somehow brought absolutely nothing to eat in case he burned more energy than planned.

I had no food in the rented apartment either.

There were no restaurants open nearby.

And he refused to wait for a delivery.

When things started getting genuinely ugly, he announced that he was withdrawing permission for our collaboration.

I had enough patience to listen to the whole thing without telling him to go fuck himself — I used to work in the complaints department of a mobile phone call center, just so you know.

And my patience was rewarded: once Alex finally managed to eat something, he calmed down and decided he wanted to collaborate with me again.

A publicação estava autorizada!
